Plant Safety Field Day
The Construction Safety Education Forum recently held a field day on plant safety at Coates Hire Moorebank.
The
day was attended by approximately 150 representatives of the construction industry, WorkCover NSW, Transport NSW, Master Builders
Association NSW and other suppliers.
A jam packed morning session included presentations on Safe Plant Supply by Coates Hire, Pre acceptance
checks on EWP’s and telehandlers by the Elevating Work Platform Association and the Telescopic Handler Association.
WorkCover NSW
outlined their expectations for excavator quick hitches and designated lifting points.
Other sessions were held in the afternoon on
plant lifting lug design and inspection, workers on foot training, identifying blind spots on plant and a demonstration of proximity
detection/anti-collision technology designed to assist with plant/people separation. The day concluded with a simple but effective
demonstration of the use of magnetic tyne covers to reduce the slippage of loads from forklifts.
A $1000 donation was presented to
Foundation House by Coates Hire CEO Leigh Ainsworth who acknowledged the outstanding and never ending work done by Foundation House.
A
BBQ lunch was also provided by Coates Hire.
The Membership Committee would like to thank Prasad deSilva from WorkCover NSW, Phil Newby
& Rob Wilkinson from the EWPA & THA, Arron Cooper from JLG Industries, Stefan Zmuda from the Lack Group and Alistair Witt
from Cascade Forklift Attachments for their time and effort in ensuring the day was a great success.
A special thankyou to Rob, Suzanne,
Peter and everyone else at Coates Hire for providing the venue, setting up the equipment and marquee and generally ensuring the day
went off without a hitch.
It was clear from all the discussion and enthusiastic faces in the crowd that field day’s like this make a valuable contribution to safety within the construction industry.
