Mobile Crane Awareness Field Day
The Brian Miller Safety Education Forum membership committee recently held a field day on mobile crane
safety at Gillespies Cranes, Glendenning.
The day was attended by approximately 100 representatives of the construction industry, WorkCover
NSW and other suppliers.
An excellent session was held by Gillespies on the correct setup of a mobile crane with some important tips
on what to look for when a mobile crane is setup on your site.
Other sessions were held by Spanset on lifting sling inspection, A Noble
& Sons on lifting equipment testing and Safety Nets Australia on use of a safety net as fall protection on mobile cranes.
An impressive
demonstration of the use of a Controlled Descent Device from a crane basket raised 60 metres off the ground was also provided by Spanset.
From
all the discussion and enthusiastic faces in the crowd it appears everyone who attended learnt something on the day.
A delicious lunch
was also provided by Gillespies and Safety Nets Australia.
The committee membership would like to thank Gillespies Cranes, Spanset,
A Nobles & Sons and Safety Nets Australia for their time and effort in ensuring the day was a great success.
A special thankyou
to John, Graham, Shane and the crane crew for providing the venue, setting up the cranes and marquees and also to Sarkis for helping
feed the crowd.
